FIA Standard 8877-2022 Karting was developed after a thorough analysis of karting incidents and injuries in recent years. This led to a research program that shaped the design and safety requirements of the standard. The project was supported by the FIA Industry Group, a collaboration of manufacturers reporting to the FIA's technical and safety department. This group provided materials, products and expertise, and their collaboration was essential to achieving the standard's ambitious safety goals and making the most of industry knowledge.

From January 1, 2025, all participants in FIA championships, cups and trophies will be required to wear karting gloves and karting gloves that comply with this new FIA standard : FIA Standard 8877-2022 Karting. This requirement also applies to all karting competitions on the international sports calendar, ensuring a consistent level of safety within the karting.

Karting overalls

Regarding karting overalls, until the end of 2029, karting participants will have the choice between the well-known CIK-FIA overalls and the new overalls complying with the FIA Standard 8877-2022 Karting. The obligation to wear the new overalls will apply from 2030.

The introduction of FIA Standard 8877-2022 Karting is an important step in improving safety in karting and underscores the FIA's commitment to the welfare of karting participants worldwide.

The new homologation in karting does not apply to the Mini category unless explicitly stated in the regulations by the organization. In most cases, Mini drivers follow the rules of the national championship.

2025 is a transition year, and it is important to check in advance with the organization of the championship you are participating in to see if the new standard already applies.
