How to wash Nomex?

Recommended

• Machine wash at 30-40°C
• Mild liquid detergent with no additives
• Fine wash / delicate program
• Wash inside out to reduce wear and tear
• Air dry (not too hot, out of the sun)

Always avoid

• Fabric softeners
  → Reduces flame retardant capacity
• Bleach / chlorine / aggressive detergents
• Drying cabinet (high temperatures) -> Can shrink and damage fibers
• Ironing at high temperature
• Chemical cleaning
• Perfumed or oily detergents

Additional tips

• Clean clothing after every race or training session, especially when in contact with fuels, oil, hydraulic fluid or sweat, as this can adversely affect heat resistance.
• Do not pre-treat stains with chemicals - only pre-soak lightly with water and mild detergent.
• Store in a dry, clean place, not in sealed bags after use.

Why so cautious?

Nomex does not lose its flame retardant properties through washing, but chemical residues, greases, oils and aggressive agents do.
Good washing care = longer life and preservation of certification properties.
