The Schuberth SDL system explained: maximum safety, better ventilation and greater ease of use

Schuberth has long been known as a pioneer in helmet technology, and with the introduction of the SDLSchuberth Dual Locking) system, they are taking another step forward. Both the latest SP1 models and the SK1 HYBRID kart helmets are equipped with this advanced visor mechanism.

In this blog, we explain exactly what the SDL system is, why it is so innovative, as well as clarify the difference between a Standard Visor and a HC (High Contrast) visor from Schuberth.

What is the Schuberth SDL system?

The Schuberth Dual Locking System, SDL for short, is the next-generation visor locking mechanism developed specifically for Schuberth's high-performance helmets. The technology comes directly from their work in Formula 1 and other top competitions.

  1. Dual-stage closure

The SDL system has a two-phase closure:

  • Stage 1 - Ventilation position

A half-locked position that keeps the visor slightly open results:

  • lets in extra air
  • prevents condensation
  • Retains the same safety as fully enclosed
  • Ideal in warm conditions or low speeds.
  • Stage 2 - Full locking

The visor closes completely and symmetrically, which is crucial during high speeds.
This stand offers:

  • maximum safety
  • maximum stability
  • perfect seal against wind and dirt

This two-step feature gives riders more control, comfort and safety - no

traditional visor mechanism offers this combination at this level.

  1. Efficient and fast opening

Opening the visor is easier than ever:

  • A slight downward motion on the lever
  • Visor clicks open smoothly
  • No force required, even with racing gloves
  • This is especially important in racing conditions, where seconds and simplicity count.
  1. F1-derived safety

The visor always closes symmetrically due to a specially developed double lock.
This prevents:

  • warping
  • cracks
  • pressure on one side of the visor

The result: a visor that remains reliable even under extreme stress.
