Why wear a neck system?

Almost all deaths in racing accidents are due to head and neck injuries. In a crash, a pilot's body is held securely in place by his shoulder and pelvic belts. The head is protected from external impulses by the helmet. The weak link consists of the fact that the head and neck can still move unrestrictedly in all directions. A frontal impact, the head flying forward at high speed. In a full speed accident, the pressure on the back of the head is comparable to the weight of the car! At the end of this forward movement, there is a high risk of neck or skull base fracture.

Given the enormous braking power of sports cars, an airbag is not a reliable option. That's why they started looking for a system that is attached to the helmet, and still allows the pilot not to experience any significant inconvenience during the race.

The HANS system is a kind of 'harness' that rests on the shoulders and is held in place by the shoulder girdles. It is attached to the helmet via two straps. It is precisely these straps that stop the helmet (and therefore the head) at the critical moment in the event of a crash.

Sensitive shoulders? The use of Exgel gel pads together with the harness can solve this problem or discomfort, click here for more information.

Useful information regarding HANS System III 20 degree:

  • 20° degrees
  • Weight : approximately size Medium 800 gr // Large 850 gr
  • Compatible with the HANSclips type M6, if this 'type' HANS clips are not mounted on your helmet you will need to purchase them additionally!

What should you pay attention to when purchasing a hans system?

An 'uncomfortable' sitting system often indicates a 'wrong' system or a wrong application. The correct type of safety belts must be fitted correctly, but the belt holes in the seat are also important. It goes without saying that the correct helmet suitable for FHR systems must be used.

There are also a few other things of note. The HANS-systems are available in different "angles. These 'angles' (10, 20 or 30 degrees) are determined by the angle at which the back is in relation to the head when sitting in the car. After all, in a formula car the rider is lying down more and thus a 30â—¦ HANS-system is much better suited than a 20â—¦ HANS-system which in turn is better in touring cars.
